Welcome, lovers of maximalism! Nichos are small decorative shadow boxes, or shrines, that are a staple of Mexican folk art. These shadow boxes are made of tin and sourced directly from artisans in Mexico. I make each one unique, using bright acrylic paint on the exterior, glitter or patterned paper inside of each box, an image of a significant public figure or pop culture icon as the centerpiece, and finally, creative embellishments that include bright paper flowers and charms.
Nichos are perfect for people who love color and have a sense of humor. They are a spin on tradition, honoring significant pop culture figures and celebrating art and music. These make thoughtful gifts for birthdays, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Mother's or Father's day ... or just for fun!
You can hang them individually or collage style on the wall, incorporate them into your shelf decor, or add them to your office decor. I love displaying them as a conversation piece collage in a small bathroom. Display them any way that suits you! They’re meant to be fun.
I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy making it!
