Pitt’s work in the WAVWRX (wave works) series uses collage as the primary method for
creation. It also incorporates mixed media mark making methods: ink, paint, stencil, linocut, and aerosol. The interdisciplinary project also includes audio recording that have been composed in a collage like approach to coincide with the visual work. The artist is inspired by Hip-Hop, Electronica, Spirituality, Numerology, Afrofuturism, Free Jazz, and imagination. The collages mostly utilize: recycled, upcycled papers from industrial packaging, construction papers, magazines, newsprint, stickers, and other various paper fibers. The work is layered, juxtaposed, arranged, to achieve a particular layout of imagery. Some works have been cut more into- repeated, layered and reworked, to create a sense of added depth and texture. Pitt calls this interaction between positive and negative space ‘5th Dimensional Collage’ The subject matter is Pitt’s abstraction of energy and sound. The work attempts to translate vibrations and frequencies, even algebra-into a visual language. Through color, shape, line, and pattern, the works intend to suggest compositions of harmony and movement, rhythm and melody, through time and space. The images made are metaphorical sound visualizations. The musical and ound aspect of the WAVWRX series is based on the art of Sampling. Cutting/Chopping pieces of audio and layering them by pasting them together to make something new. Samples are performed and/or sequenced alongside original recordings of instruments, drum programming, synthesizers, and computer technologies. Some creations are more Sound Design explorations, while other “tracks” are more properly musical in nature. The entire audio approach is heavy on experimentation and improvisation. The term “SuperFree” was coined to define this aesthetic. Both the audio and visual work together to create the process-centered project of WAVWRX.
