NANDA SODERBERG

CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE

Nanda Soderberg started blowing glass at the University of Hawaii in 1994 and was instantly struck by the immediacy of the process. He has always been attracted to activities that are fast paced, require extreme focus and involve a degree of risk. Blowing glass was a natural fit.In 1999 Nanda received his BFA in glass and left Hawaii to gain experience working in production glass shops in Seattle and California. In 2005 He moved to Virginia to pursue his Masters degree in Art. Since receiving his MFA in 2007, Nanda has taught at Virginia Commonwealth University, California State University Fullerton, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and Pilchuck glass School. Nanda is driven by the idea of taking a found glass object, something that may have had a single use or is heading for a landfill, and transforming it into something that can be used indefinitely. Nanda works in a studio without a glass melting furnace reconfiguring found glass objects through traditional hot and cold glass working process.
