I’m comfortable describing myself interchangeably as a sculptor, fiber artist, or toy designer. I’ve been developing my own formal and technical vocabulary in this medium for nearly two decades without ever settling on one of those for long.

I grew up in art spaces with artist parents, and some of my most foundational memories are of ruminating on boundaries between the objects I was and was not allowed interaction with, comics and action figures versus painting and sculpture. Some artists would even incorporate found objects that were actual toys I could otherwise have been playing with. This seemed like a real injustice when I was three or four years old. That’s probably why I’ve always come down on the side of interactivity in my own work. Art is for everyone and you should be free to squeeze it if you want to.
