CAROL MCDONALD

In my work, I try to create a unity between the physical object and flat, graphic surface designs. I use an unglazed clay body colored with underglazes, which through the firing process, come together in a raw, almost weathered look. This aged final result juxtaposes nicely with the fun, brightly colored subject matter of my Mid Century inspired houses. I’m always trying to honor the look and feel Mid Century Modern design, while also embracing my own skill with drawing and working with the clay. While I was unsure of my furniture outlines for some time, I have come to love the super flat and somewhat strange perspective I have created. I try to give each house an overall unifying theme, using either colors or furniture items with similar shapes. In the end, I want my Mid Century houses to be fun and whimsical; a room thoughtfully designed and wonderful to be in.
