In my work, I try to create a unity between the physical object and flat, graphic surface designs. I use an unglazed clay body colored with underglazes, which through the firing process, come together in a raw, almost weathered look. This aged final result juxtaposes nicely with the fun, brightly colored subject matter of my Mid Century inspired houses. Iā€™m always trying to honor the look and feel Mid Century Modern design, while also embracing my own skill with drawing and working with the clay. While I was unsure of my furniture outlines for some time, I have come to love the super flat and somewhat strange perspective I have created. I try to give each house an overall unifying theme, using either colors or furniture items with similar shapes. In the end, I want my Mid Century houses to be fun and whimsical; a room thoughtfully designed and wonderful to be in.
