VICTORIA WHITE-BERRY
Victoria White Berry’s practice mainly focuses on glass, ceramics, and metals, incredibly diverse materials used for the mundane to the exquisite. She loves the challenge of working with these culturally rich materials, manipulating them to understand their limits, researching their histories, and finding ways to apply them to her work. Her ceramic pieces are inspired by traditional Japanese Nerekomi techniques. Coloring porcelain into a rainbow of hues she creates patterns that are then inlaid into porcelain vessels. The vessels are sanded and red multiple times to create a luxurious smooth velvety finish.
Born in Saskatchewan, Canada, she started her adult career pursuing the pastry arts, graduating from Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa at the top of her class. She had the opportunity to reconnect with the arts community in South Texas and began a degree in studio art at Del Mar Community College. After relocating to Richmond, Virginia, she finished her degree in Craft/Materials at Virginia Commonwealth University(VCU). She has received various scholarships at VCU, such as the Allan A. Eastman Founders in the School of the Art Scholarship, Peachtree Award in the Visual Arts, Craft and Materials Studies Scholarships, and VCU Opportunity Scholarship. Since graduating from VCU, Victoria has relocated to the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. where she lives with her husband and toy poodle.
